This is an original oil painting of a pair of kingfishers.
The painting shows the kingfishers' traditional mating ritual in which the male offers the female a fish. This is why I chose the title 'The gift'. If she accepts, it is likely that they will pair up and hopefully produce offspring.
My husband and I were lucky enough to see this ritual by chance when we went into one of the bird hides at Alton Water near to where we live in Suffolk. We were wondering why the male wasn't eating the fish when suddenly the female popped out of the nest hole and landed on the branch! My camera wasn't good enough to take the photograph but I was lucky enough to get permission to use a professional photographer's shot for my painting.
It is signed using an archival pen in the bottom right. The painting comes in a classic chunky frame that will suit most interiors and is ready to hang.
The image size is 30.5cm x 30.5cm (12" x 12") and is in a chunky frame that measures 43.3cm x 43.3cm.
It is painted in oil on a board prepared with two finely sanded layers of gesso.
